Siemens Drives Sustainable and Future-Proof Power Distribution Across Norway
Siemens Drives Sustainable and Future-Proof Power Distribution Across Norway
-
Framework Agreement:
- Siemens Smart Infrastructure has signed a six-year framework agreement with Norgesnett.
- The agreement includes the delivery of SF6 gas-free switchgear (8DJH 24 – blue GIS switchgear) and compact substations.
-
Norgesnett's Commitment:
- Norgesnett, Norway's most efficient grid operator, operates across seven municipalities in southeastern Norway, serving 102,000 customers.
- The company has committed to deploying Siemens' SF6-free switchgear to meet its ambitious sustainability targets.
-
Environmental Impact:
- Traditional SF6 gas has a global warming potential 24,300 times higher than CO2 over a 100-year perspective.
- Siemens' switchgear uses "Clean Air," a climate-neutral insulating medium consisting of components of ambient air.
- By adopting Siemens' SF6-free solution, Norgesnett will save approximately 1,200 tonnes of CO2 over the product's lifetime compared to SF6-gas switchgear.
-
Innovative Technology:
- Siemens' 8DJH 24 – blue GIS switchgear is part of the sustainable blue GIS portfolio.
- The switchgear combines Clean Air insulation with Siemens' proven vacuum-interrupter technology, offering a global warming potential (GWP) below 1.
-
Leadership and Vision:
- Stephan May, CEO of Electrification and Automation at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, highlights the importance of this agreement in advancing sustainable energy distribution in Norway.
- Vidar Kristoffersen, CEO of Norgesnett, expresses pride in being the first company in Norway to exclusively use SF6-free switchgear, reinforcing their environmental and sustainability efforts.
-
Future-Proof Solutions:
- Siemens' collaboration with Norgesnett exemplifies a shared dedication to environmental stewardship and the provision of sustainable, reliable, and affordable power distribution solutions.
- The agreement ensures predictable access to critical materials and equipment, bolstering Norgesnett's sustainability initiatives.
